This is great misery. Is that blood pooled around the feet of the guy in the middle? Isn't he the only one wearing a loincloth?

I read so many things into this. Could look at it for a long time and keep seeing more.

This was painted during 'Romantisim', they covered private parts then. That is a cloth beneath the subject (artist's) feet which I think represents death by its colour. They all have holes where their eyes should be which indicates their souls have been taken or are lost.
